The Proust Society of Greenwich
A Proust Reading Group
About Us
The Proust Society of Greenwich is a literary society dedicated to the close reading and appreciation of Marcel Proust's monumental work, À la recherche du temps perdu (In Search of Lost Time). We gather regularly to explore Proust's world — his language, his characters, his philosophy — and to share in the pleasure of one of literature's greatest achievements.
About the Founder
Fereshteh Priou, founder of the Proust Society of Greenwich, was born in Tehran, Iran, and earned her MBA at George Washington University. She later moved to Paris with her French husband and two children, where she developed a deep appreciation for French literature, particularly Proust. Upon returning to Greenwich, Connecticut, she launched a Proust reading group through the Alliance Française of Greenwich and, in 2007, founded the Proust Society of Greenwich.
Donations
The Proust Society of Greenwich is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. All donations are tax deductible. You can donate by using Zelle: [email protected]. The donations are used to organize and develop events.
Our Mission
We believe that Proust rewards careful, communal reading. Our mission is to create a welcoming space for readers of all backgrounds — from those encountering Proust for the first time to those returning for a second, third, or more reading — to engage deeply with the text and with one another.
Our Meetings
We meet monthly on Zoom, working through the novel volume by volume. Each session is guided by a close reading of the assigned pages, with time for open discussion, reflection, and the occasional digression into Proust's life and times. New members are always welcome.
